Advertising Policy

Welcome to scot-rail.co.uk, Scotland's online railway community. The group is for any rail enthusiast interested in the railways and trains of Scotland. It not only consists of the wiki that you're reading now, but a busy online forum and mailing list, which was accessible to registered users. From April 2024 the forum has closed, with a replacement started on Groups.io.

Contributors Only

scot-rail.co.uk is a community of rail enthusiasts where to get something out, you are expected to put something in. As such, joining the group for the sole purpose of advertising is frowned upon. If you are a regular contributor to the group, you are more than welcome to post an advert.

Events

Scottish railway and model railway events (eg, exhibitions, railtours, galas) may be advertised without any need to contact to the moderators. You should send one email when the event is first announced and then follow up with a reply to that original email a few days before as a reminder. You can also add updates to the thread when additional information becomes available, eg, timetables are confirmed.

For Sale

Auctions and sales for Scottish railway related items (eg, magazines, models, memorabilia) can be advertised as long as you're an individual or charity rather than a commercial enterprise. A single advert may be posted. Please don't post reminders.

Links to photos

Links can accompany sightings or can be posted to the photography list when looking for comments. Please link to individual photos (or at a push, an individual gallery) and videos rather than to your website's homepage.

Websites

Websites can be advertised by putting a link in your email signature. If you use the scot-rail website, this can be done via your User Info page.
