Ayr Townhead is used by ScotRail to stable units overnight that finish or are scheduled to start their duties at Ayr, Largs, Ardrosssan and Kilmarnock.

Class 318s and Class 334s, along with a couple of Class 156 units can be found here overnight for cleaning and stabling.
