The Caledonian Railway runs for four miles from Brechin, in Angus, east to Bridge of Dun near Montrose. The line passes through attractive countryside and features some taxing gradients of up to 1 in 67. It is not connected to Network Rail.

The Railway runs a Sunday (mainly steam operated) service between late May and early September, supplemented with a diesel service on Saturdays in July and August. There are also Day Out With Thomas events, Murder Mystery evenings and Santa Specials in December. The line's Diesel Group holds a popular annual 'Sulzerfest' Diesel Gala every year on the May bank holiday weekend.
