Class 320
Breadcrumb navigation
The Class 320s arrived in Scotland in 1990. Most were delivered direct to Shields Depot. Several were stored at Townhead Carriage Sidings in Ayr and 4 units were also stored in Glasgow Central Sidings 4/5 for a couple of months.
First Scotrail operate a fleet of 22 Class 320 units. Although based at Shields Depot, south of the River Clyde, they operate only on the North Electrics.(Helensburgh/Balloch-Airdrie/Drumgelloch). They also operate on the Springburn and Milngavie branches.
With the Airdrie to Bathgate railway line reopening bill, currently going through the Scottish Parliament, new faster units are going to be required. Therefore these units will move to new routes around 2010, which will probably be to replace the Class 314s, operating out of Glasgow Central high level, on Neilston/Newton and Cathcart Circle services. They may also end up on some Gourock and Wemyss Bay services, however this may change nearer the time.
