ScotRail Railways was the National Express (NX) owned franchise which took over the ScotRail services from British Rail in April 1997.
This also included the Caledonian Sleeper overnight trains to London.
The franchise expired on 16th October 2004 and was transferred to First Group the next day.

- New class 170 Turbostars were introduced to service
- Class 101 and Class 117 DMUs were withdrawn
- New class 334s were introduced
- Class 303 and Class 305 EMUs were withdrawn
