First TransPennine Express

"Delivering great service every day"

Introduction

First TransPennine Express (FTPE) is a train company which offers a fast, frequent and superior service. With services from Glasgow, Edinburgh to Manchester Airport, Scarborough to Liverpool and over 75 stations in between First TransPennine Express have the North of England covered.

An investment programme of over £260m is currently under way bringing high-quality intercity rolling stock, new depots and substantial improvements to our 30 stations and most importantly through the development of our people.

Anglo-Scottish Services

FTPE took over the running of Manchester to Scotland services from Virgin Cross Country on 9th December 2007. The services follow a similar stopping pattern and run to almost the exact same time but are instead formed by smaller 3-car Class 185 Pennine Desiro units. The diagrams for the Scottish services interwork with services on their north west route. Drivers for the journey north of Preston are provided by Mossend based Freightliner drivers.

On-board service

Catering

Through close partnership with Rail Gourmet the operator has low prices and a wide range of products for a trolly catering service. A menu for catering can be found on the company's website: www.firstgroup.com/tpexpress. The company sells Fairtrade tea and coffee. Glasgow and Edinburgh services will have a trolly catering facilty. A wide range of products are stocked on the new trolleys which are operated and staffed by Rail Gourmet. New products such as porriage and shortbread were introduced especially for the launch of the Scottish service. Unlike many FTPE routes the scottish services have catering on every train.

1st Class

TPE's first class has been upgraded significantly since the introduction of the Class 185s. If travelling 1st class, customers will receive complimentary tea/coffee/water plus a biscuit/pastery of their choice. The 1st class menu has recently been altered and customers are now offered a mini snack-box when travelling First Class. The change was made due to FTPE extending into Scotland. Snack Boxes are split into Breakfast and all-day with the breakfast comprising of cereal, croissant, apricots, orange juice and an alpin bar. Whereas the all day box comprises of pate and crackers, along with cheese, jaffa cake bar, a chocolate piece and other treats.
